The Redding Land Trust will celebrate
its 45th birthday this year. "Celebrate" with them at
their Annual Membership Meeting on March 28th from
3pm to 5pm at Highstead Arboretum ,127 Lonetown
Road.
"We hope you will join us as we thank
all who have helped write our story of successful land-saving."
Sincerely, Mary Anne Guitar, President
Founded in 1965 in order to preserve Redding's
natural heritage of open space, the Redding Land Trust
today holds, in outright gifts or in conservation easements,
some 1,600 acres of meadows and woodlands, saved forever
from the bulldozer. Preserved properties range from
a few acres to large tracts of 100 acres or more. These,
along with major tracts purchased by the Town and the
presence of Putnam and Huntington State Parks, make
Redding a unique green oasis amid surrounding towns.
The Redding Land Trust has been preparing
an application for Accreditation with the Land Trust
Alliance (LTA) over the last two years, beginning with
a rigorous self-assessment. Each of the 125 properties
owned by the Land Trust and each of the 53 easements
held by the Land Trust have been visited annually with
all management plans updated. This has been accomplished
by the working Trustees of RLT over this period of time.
The Redding Land Trust adopted the LTA Standards and
Practices in 2006 and have been working since then to
align their practices and policies to this stringent
model of management excellence.
