WHY NOT JOIN the Land Trust? More than 300 of your friends and neighbors have joined and most keep renewing year after year. For a variety of good reasons, such as:

  • Always knowing what the Land Trust stands for. Unlike some environmental organizations nowadays, the Trust does not dabble in a dozen different issues; it concentrates on one, saving land. Unlike some others, it does not just preach conservation; it practices it the old-fashioned way, saving land.

  • Knowing that the Trust does not burden its members with endless appeals and alarms.

  • But knowing, too, that if you want to get involved, the Trust welcomes your participation. For there are miles of walking trails and acres of open space to be maintained and protected.

Partnerships

The Trust has forged strong partnerships with other land-save organizations, most notably the Redding Conservation Commission. Many of our properties are the result of its subdivision set-aside policies. Developers set aside open space when creating a subdivision and the Trust is generally the recipient. We have

worked with the Nature Conservancy. Trust trails link with those in Audubon holdings, State parks and water company lands. Our Book of Trails provides detailed maps and information on walking Trust properties. It is available at Town Hall and the Mark Twain Library.

Our strongest partnership is with the people of Redding who have supported our mission by giving land and/or money to the Trust during this last third of the century.

Membership is open to all. Dues are $10 and contributions are tax deductible. A Trust publication - On Giving - explains the benefits, tax and otherwise, of donating land.

Redding Land Trust today holds, in outright gifts or in conservation easements, some 1,600 acres of meadows and woodlands, saved forever from the bulldozer. Preserved properties range from a few acres to large tracts of 100 acres or more. These, along with major tracts purchased by the Town and the presence of Putnam and Huntington State Parks, make Redding a unique green oasis amid surrounding towns.
